In today's world, almost everything is powered by electricity. Manual treadmills appear to have gone the way of the dinosaur. Are they still useful? Let's take a look at how a manual treadmill works.
As the name suggests, a manual machine depends entirely on the user (which is you!). There is no need for a power source. It has a frame and a running belt and that's about it. You can change the incline if you want to. But remember, once you set it, you can't change it while you are running (no console, remember?). You have to get off the machine physically and change the incline, then get on the machine again.
You never want to do that because starting a manual machine can be quite a challenge. Since there is no motor, the machine needs you to provide the power for moving the belt. You need to push harder during the start of the run to gather enough momentum for the belt to move to the speed you want. After that, all you need to do is to continue to provide constant power to attain constant speed.
But if you get tired and start to slow, the belt slows down as well. If you run out of energy and you stop, the machine stops too.
A key advantage of having a manual machine is that it's not dependent on electricity. If a storm causes a black out, you can still workout on a manual treadmill. Or if your modern treadmill breaks down, you can still depend on the trusty backup treadmill. So are manual treadmills useful? Yes, in some ways, they are.

How to Start Your Day Right Each and Every Day by Robert Choat
You get up in the morning or whatever time of day you usually start. You feel a certain way and may even try to get yourself motivated to get going. That is typically what happens to most people. It is especially true for workdays. And it is the way you get up that may determine how the rest of your day is going to go.
I know the feeling. Like many of you, I've also had a hard time dragging myself out of bed to get my day started. It can be hard. Afterwards I would go for a cup of coffee and a quick breakfast. My mind would drag too. I had to figure out how to get myself going right, all the time.
Part of what I learned was that in order to start your day off right, you had to prepare the night before. That means getting a good night's sleep. And even before that, make sure you exercise on a regular basis as well as eating right. As I've always stated, eat good and move your body throughout the day.
Before you go to sleep at night, write down any worries you may have and leave those worries on the paper. Don't watch the news just right before going to sleep. Sure you may want to find out what is going on, but that may create some stress as well as put negative suggestions into your subconscious mind. You see, 30 minutes before you go to sleep, your mind will relax. When that happens, it is open for suggestions of any kind.
During that 30 minute period (also known as the "magic 30 minutes), you can use to put in positive suggestions. Some of those include: plans towards a goal, confidence, and getting a good night's sleep. This preparation will help you sleep well and wake up energized.
After waking up the next morning, stretch your body while still in bed. Mentally embrace the day. Suggest to yourself that this is your day and you will enjoy every opportunity. Look at the day as a brand new start in your life. If you have someone you love, give that person a hug.
You may want to do a light exercise. That's up to you - though not required. What is required is eating a good and healthy breakfast. Breakfast is the king of all the meals and should be the biggest. It will fuel your body and kick start your metabolism. You will have the energy that will get your day starting just right, instead of being sluggish.
Plan out what you're going to do for the day. Make sure part of that plan is towards a goal or purpose you have. This will keep you focused and also help to release any anxiety that usually happens when people try to "shoot from the hip" instead.
Finally, take some time out during the day (and as part of your planned day) to do self-care. It is important for re-energizing yourself towards your purpose. You will feel better and be more attractive to yourself and to others. You can start each day with purpose and energy.

How to Develop a Fitness Plan
Developing a fitness that works for your own individual needs can sometimes be an overwhelming task. However, when you break down the components of a fitness plan you'll be able to start slowly and come up with a fitness plan that works for you.
One of the first things that you need to do is determine where you are with your fitness level. If you've been inactive for a long period of time you're not going to be able to jump into a fitness plan that is too strenuous and tiring. You'll need to start off slowly, perhaps by doing some walking for 30 minutes each day.
You should take some time to book an appointment with your doctor so that you have a complete checkup before you start on a fitness plan. If you've been moderately active you can incorporate other fitness activities into your daily routine. Try biking, swimming, hiking, lifting weights, or yoga. The list is endless when it comes to increasing your physical activity.
Another part of your fitness plan is paying attention to what you eat. Make changes to your diet so that you're consuming the amount of calories that your body needs while at the same time getting the vitamins and nutrition that is recommended. Reduce the amount of sugars and refined flours that you eat. Trim the fat from the meats that you eat and choose leaner cuts.
You can substitute chicken or fish for meat at least a couple of times a week. If you smoke you should take the necessary steps to quitting. Talk to your doctor so that you get the help that you need to succeed. Don't try to do everything overnight since studies show that permanent lifestyle changes take time. Make small changes in your physical activity and your diet, and you'll soon be on your way to a fitness plan that meets your lifestyle.
